Irish viewers to receive dedicated feed from Wembley

Supponor will mark Ireland’s debut at the new Wembley stadium next week with a dedicated feed carrying targeted advertising to viewers watching in the Republic.

Wednesday’s friendly football international between England and Ireland will be the first time the Irish team has played at Wembley since the rebuilt stadium opened six years ago.

Brown joins Supponor in key new sales role

Supponor has recruited Nick Brown as Head of Media Sales to help establish its growing presence in the global media sports market.

Brown joins in a new role and will focus on driving advertising sales through strengthening relations with Supponor’s existing commercial partners and forging new relationships with advertising partners and agencies.

He has over 20 years’ experience in media, event and sponsorship sales, working at a senior level for major companies, including Universal Pictures, Carlton TV, The Walt Disney Company, Sony TV and Eurosport.

DBRLive ready for USA after successful tests

DBRLive is heading to America after successful tests showed its technology can be adapted to work with TV signals in the USA.

US cameras have a different frame rate to those in Europe, which called for modifications to video equipment and software systems used in DBRLive’s billboard replacement.

Supponor’s development team in Espoo, Finland, improved its software and hardware to accommodate the higher frame rates common to US cameras, and brought in advanced new infra-red cameras which support HD signals.

Toivonen in tune with cutting-edge technology

For someone who would go on to work at the cutting edge of new technology, Supponor Senior Scientist Lassi Toivonen had an unlikely arrival in the world.

He was born the last of seven children in Lappajärvi, Central Finland, in a remote farmhouse without electricity, telephone or even a proper road.

His parents followed the family tradition of farming – but Lassi followed his interest in science and studied at the Helsinki University of Technology, which is now part of Aalto University and less than 2km away from his new ‘home’, Supponor’s R&D centre in Espoo.

Supponor sponsors Leaders Sport Network

Supponor is sponsoring a key networking event this month for sport executives from the industry’s leading brands.

Company CEOs and director level executives will meet at the Leaders Sport Network to share ideas on moving forward within the industry.

The Football League, the NBA, Nike, British Airways, UEFA, Williams F1 and the Bundesliga are among the big names joining brainstorming sessions on, among other things, commercialising their brand.

Two new international venues for DBRLive feed

DBRLive makes its debut at two major stadiums over the next few days as it streams separate advertising feeds from live international football games in Geneva and at Stamford Bridge.

On Thursday, Supponor’s outside broadcast team will be at the Stade de Geneve, Geneva, for the Italy v Brazil friendly.

It will work with host broadcaster TPC to send out live three feeds – to Italy, Brazil and the rest of the world, each carrying separate, targeted billboard ads.

DBRLive makes La Liga debut at Deportivo

Supponor made its La Liga debut on Saturday, when DBRLive was brought into action at the match between Deportivo and Real Madrid.

As always, the high-profile game, which Real Madrid won 2-1, attracted a large international TV audience.

International and domestic viewers watching the broadcast live saw virtual billboard advertising provided by Supponor's DBRLive system.

Supponor buys in high-spec diagnostic device

Supponor has invested in a high-spec diagnostic device as part of its on-going service revision to maintain its pole position in digital billboard replacement advertising.

DBRLive is already a trailblazer in its seamless integration of replacement billboard ads into live broadcast feeds from sports stadia, but Supponor’s development team is constantly looking at ways of honing the product further and so brought in the Phabrix Hand Held SxE.

Supponor founder whose vision became a reality

The man who founded Supponor, Erkki Rantalainen, is to retire from the company after 13 years.

Rantalainen was inspired to produce virtual advertising for sports while watching the Millennium celebrations in New York’s Times Square.

He saw adverts projected onto a blue wall and reasoned that it must therefore be possible to project virtual advertising onto any background.

Key Finder opens door to enhanced system

Supponor continues to improve its unique DBRLive technology with an enhancement to the system that allows the replacement of perimeter billboards after broadcasters have already inserted their match graphics.

This add-on to the system, known as Key Finder (patent applied for), means that DBRLive can be inserted on to the full programme host broadcaster's multilateral feed ("dirty") or the on-site broadcaster unilateral feed, completely post production. This can be done either at the venue or at a remote MCR/play-out location.

International success for Supponor at Wembley

Supponor scored another international success when it delivered two separate targeted advertising feeds from the England v Brazil friendly last night.

Football fans from all over the world tuned in to watch the Wembley Stadium thriller – which England won 2-1.

Those watching live in Brazil saw virtual advertising carrying the roster of their national team’s sponsors, while fans in the rest of the world saw different brands advertised on the international feed.

Pitch deal takes DRBLive worldwide

Supponor has signed a landmark agreement with leading sports marketing and rights agency Pitch International which will see Supponor’s revolutionary billboard replacement technology used around the world at major football events.

The two-year deal will see DBRLIve used at major sporting events represented by Pitch, including Brazil Inernational friendlies leading up to World Cup 2014, England International matches and FA Cup matches.

DBRLive given Premier outing

Supponor has broken new ground with its Digital Billboard Replacement technology used for the first time at a Scottish Premier League match.

DBRLive was in action from Motherwell’s Fir Park stadium for the home match with Edinburgh side Hearts.

Billboards were replaced in the international broadcast feed, which went to territories outside the UK, and the lunchtime kick-off in Scotland meant the match was evening primetime viewing in Asia, so providing greater exposure for differentiated perimeter advertising.

Sweden game proves a hit on remarkable night

Supponor’s Digital Billboard Replacement technology was seen by millions of fans around the world on a remarkable footballing night in Stockholm.

Sweden beat England 4-2 in an international friendly – a match which marked the official opening of the Friends Arena.

Supponor opens new operations centre

Supponor has opened a new operations centre in London to aid the smooth roll-out of its DBRLive broadcast facilities.

The 5,000 sq ft new premises will act as a testing and storage centre for the equipment and vans which operate Supponor’s digital billboard replacement technology during live broadcast events throughout Europe.

Until now, the equipment needed to operate DBRLive has been kept at three different sites around London. The new premises, in North Acton, brings it all together under one roof.

World first at England Norway game

New deal endorses DBRLive

Supponor’s ground-breaking technology has received the backing of Europe’s leading provider of broadcast facilities. United, part of Euro Media Group, has signed a three-year deal to provide production services for Supponor’s digital perimeter advertising solution DBRLive.

Ops team on the move

Supponor’s Operations team is moving and expanding as the company gears up for the new opportunities presented by DBRLive.

Premier finish to season for Supponor

Queen’s Park Rangers’ promotion to the English Premier League proved a fitting backdrop for Supponor, which was able to celebrate its own success at Loftus Road.

Supponor used the Rangers stadium to test its DBRLive system during the Football League Championship season just finished, allowing the company to experience a range of conditions in a real world setting.

CTO Relocates to London

Supponor has signalled another step forward as it enters a crucial stage of its development with the relocation of its Chief Technology Officer to London.

Vesa Suontama, who has been with the company since 2008, moves with his family to the UK to join the commercial and operational teams based in Supponor’s new offices in Paddington.

New funding signal for growth

Supponor’s shareholders have demonstrated their commitment to the business with the conclusion of a new round of funding.

After successful testing at a series of events, which culminated in the England versus Ghana match at Wembley on March 29, Supponor is ready to operate at other events and is lining up new commercial agreements with rights holders.

The company has raised Euros 3million, all from its existing investors which include Norwegian-based Northzone and Finnish company Conor Partners, along with private companies, individuals and employees.

R&D team strengthened

Supponor’s Technology centre in Finland has been strengthened with the appointment of two new members of the management team.

Markku Salin and Noel Hunt have joined the company as Quality Assurance Manager and R&D Partners Manager respectively.

Markku will take responsibility of the company’s testing activities. He comes from a project manager background in embedded projects as well as a software engineering background.

Supponor plays on international stage

Supponor has taken its digital billboard replacement system to new heights with the delivery of its first international football production.
The company was invited by the English Football Association to test DBRLive at the England versus Ghana friendly international at Wembley Stadium on March 29.

Supponor installed more than 100 metres of specially prepared billboards along one touchline and integrated its technology with the host broadcast team which delivered a separate production feed for the African market.
